This week on campus there is a really awesome job fair on the commons. Luckily for all of us the weather has been perfect and so we have been able to really enjoy everything that has been going on. The job fair is very general is meant to be more of an introduction for incoming freshman who don't quite know what they want to do yet. These various interest groups and companies are lined up on the lawn with their booths and promotional products. They hand out these little tradeshow giveaway items to people who stand and talk with them long enough. There are the usual booths for each major and the beside each one of those there are a line of private organizations.
Since I am in education and I know that I am not switching out, I went to that area to talk to the school reps that were there. They gave me a bunch of good information about school around the state, which is where I want to work. They each gave me some cool logo merchandise I think in an attempt to keep their school in mind when I am looking for a job in the spring. After I had finished schmoosing with the administrators I thought it would be cool to check out some of the other booths, and try to get free stuff. I talked to paper company people and phone companies. I played games with an ROTC guy who knew that I had been here for a while but was just having some fun. I actually did find something that was a bit of interest to me outside of the education section. It really did still fit in to education, but not in the traditional model in this country. It was this national aid organization that needed people to help teach whatever is needed in disaster areas. I would be teaching anything from the local culture to american education. I thought that would be fun and I plan to keep them in mind. All in all it was a good day. I walked away with arm loads of promotional gifts and a possible job option.
