Richmond internet service

I just moved back to school yesterday and there were so many things that I had to get done (way more than I planned on for sure). My room was a mess (well it still is) and there were so many little tasks that needed to be accomplished. I wasn't the first person to move in (thankfully), so a lot of stuff was already done, but our internet service wasn't working so I had to call our internet provider and have everything figured out. Sounds easy right? It was an absolute nightmare. To me all internet services seem the same I have no idea what the differences between them are (and actually I don't care to find out as long as the one I have is working). They told me that my router for the wireless internet isn't working because I brought it from my house in Chicago to Muncie, Indiana and now it has to be reset. To me it's puzzling. How is any internet service different than the other and why does it matter where the router is? How is Richmond internet service different than Muncie or Chicago?
Anyways it took almost an hour and forty minutes to figure out the modem and the router and to get them working together (in the same zone, whatever that means). She would have me unplug them and then count to thirty and then plus one in then count and then plug in the other one, but if I counted too fast I would have to start over again (it was outrageous how many times it took to get it right). This is one of the very few times I wish that I still lived in the dorms at school. It is so nice to have my own house (well with 3 other people), but you have your own bathroom (instead of sharing with 30 other girls) and a kitchen where you can shop and make food instead of going to the nasty cafeteria. It seems so great when you are thinking about it before hand or after you have all of these ridiculous tasks accomplished, but while you are calling the cable company or spending money on furniture and groceries, you start thinking about how great it was when you lived in the dorms on campus and everything was already done for you. But after everything is done it is worth all of the trouble you went through.
