Lure of the Lore is a new site-specific installation created especially for Solvent Space. Lure of the Lore is an ongoing installation that will morph and grow during the entire duration of the exhibition. Its permanent condition is flux.
Cece Cole was born and raised in Louisiana. She received her BFA from the University of Louisiana with a focus on video and installation. After graduation she lived in New Orleans, Connecticut, Seattle, the Adirondacks and North Carolina before settling in Iowa City, Iowa where she attended graduate school. At the University of Iowa she earned her Masters of Fine Arts in painting. Her exhibition record includes the University of Iowa Art Museum, the Coe College gallery, Midwest Exhibitions in Chicago, and a number of garages in Iowa City. She will be exhibiting at the Reynolds Gallery in Richmond, VA, this Spring. She is the first recipient of the prestigious annual VCUarts Painting/Printmaking Residency Fellowship at Plant Zero and a visiting instructor in the VCU Painting and Printmaking Department. Her work incorporates second-hand and found-objects, cardboard, tape, painting and drawing in an ongoing series of site-specific installations. She is lured by the ephemeral quality of discarded materials and the fleeting nature and impermanence of installation as an art form. Her inspiration broadly relates to the human impact on the environment, but more specifically to the clumsiness, vulnerability and imperfection of progress and enhancement.
