From Diabetes-UK we learn that one in three people with Type 1 diabetes aged between 18 and 30 already has retinopathy, a complication of diabetes that can lead to blindness in later life, says a survey presented today. This problem will increas in the US with our excess of obesity (even type II) and its links to diabetes. Further the lack of access to health care by many of these individuals will only worsen the outcome

I have always believed that obesity is the source of all diseases.

My younger brother is still 12 but I have to check it out about retinopathy on him.

Strong evidence that weight loss produced by lifestyle modification reduces blood glucose levels and HbA1c in some patients with type 2 diabetes. Their recommendations emphasize the potential effectiveness of weight control using multiple interventions and strategies, including:

FDA-approved weight loss medications, in combination with diet and physical activity, results in weight loss when used for 6 months to a year.
Suggestive evidence that weight loss induced by weight loss medications does not appear to improve blood glucose levels any better than weight loss through lifestyle therapy in overweight people with or without type 2 diabetes.
