U.S. smoking rate is holding steady

The November 9 MMWR report on smoking indicates that no decline in smoking has occurred in the last three years, despite all the public education and health care efforts to reducew it further. Behavioral medicine is still in its infancy, the practitioners do not seem to realize that people do not like being told how to behave. Much of the current effort is counterproductive.
