Cardiac Imaging Method May Expose Patients to High Radiation Dose.

An article in JAMA [JAMA. 2009;301[5]:545-547] and accompanying editorial raises the issue of dangers from excess radiation from investigation of coronary disease. There are an increasing number of studies recently that question that value of excessive testing. With all the media ads for people to use these ‘screening’ tools en masse to provide early detection and intervention to reduce coronary disease more caution is necessary. Unless your doctor specifically recommends the evaluation don’t fall for the medical huckstering in the media.
