RAOK
well ok so you may be wondering, what in the world is RAOK?
before we get started i thought i'd post this.... word of caution
caution this post is str8 up Bakvaaas (trivial stuff) and its koor (false) b/c its my ego talkin, not Guru ji....
i guess its one of the things sikhi is based on... RAOK aka Random Act/Acts Of Kindness, and well in my egotistical mind
act of kindness could be anything aka like well
1. opening the door for someone
2. helping someone out
3. when going out wiht friends picking up the tab, or leaving the tip
4. if your friended needs something just buy it for them
5.putting aside your own sterotypes and prejudice, accepting people for who they are,
6. if a friend is sick, just going to grocery store and buy them stuff, and just not worryin about the karch, the cost...
there reason why i'm bloggin this up is well i've noticed it alot, at first i thougth it was just mainly western mind set that lacked this core thing with in their psyche.. to be able to do somethig nice for someone with out an ulterior motive.... then like i realzed even the eastern mind aka punjabi mind also suffers from this mindset...
and its a darn shame if we think about it, b/c this is the basises of Sikhi... to serve others.. To treat other the way you want to be treated. this is the whole principle of langaar.....
we sikhs say it ever day in Jap Ji sahib "Nanak Naam Chardi Kala Tayaraaai Banay Sarbaat Dha Bhalla"
now that quote is really deep, now this is just my take on it, warning again this is my own EGO, well ok so we get the 1. Naam from Guru Nanak aka Nirankaar 2. we get the Chardi kala from guru ji, so thus we have no Dukh/suffering 3. now what is our mission to serve others, and may your will be fair to all, give or take...
pretty much when you finish off jap ji sahib, oops i mean Ardaas*, Guru nanak Dev ji's last words are if you wanna see me or be my sikh, serve others, as if you were serving me....
Then again i'm reminded by the words of Siri Sahib,, " how can you expect welfare to all if you only serve a certain group, you can't chardi kala at all..."
I still can't understand why as sikhs of the Guru, still after 300 years we still can not serve others, we have the utlimate source wealth ... Gurbani...
we read it everyday in Anand Sahib.. . ਸਾਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਆਧਾਰੋ ॥
saachaa naam maeraa aadhhaaro ||
The True Name is my only support.
ਖਾਵਹੁ ਖਰਚਹੁ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਹਲਤ ਪਲਤ ਕੈ ਸੰਗੇ ॥
khaavahu kharachahu thott n aavai halath palath kai sa(n)gae ||
No matter how much I eat and expend this wealth, it is not exhausted;
here and hereafter, it remains with me.
if our supply doesn;t short, then why not help the other.. b/c if you can't help the other, you completely missed the whole meaning of a sikh.. and you have no use to Guru ji.... (i knows that blunt). but i'm also reminded again by a quote by Siri sahib , he said "You know the biggest misunderstanding of Sikh Dharma, Haar Eak. for 300 years no sikh has figured this out.... enlightenment.... A sikh doesn't care for that, b/c the moment the sikh decided to follows Guru ji completely (amrit chuk, i think), he/she is enlightened b/c guru ji covers all the short comings.. and you have Gurbani!, now the goal of that sikh is now to Go out and serve people, thats it serve others serve others..."
that wasn't the exact quote but it was the highlight of that talk on monotony...
now that i sit back in this past month at baru sahib... i noticed even pple- (CAMPERS weren't helping other Campers, the sevadars were helping everyone exteremly but the campers most def were helping one another)* there weren't really serving one another, imagine that , Sikhs can't even serve one another, all b/c of their own personal goals.. ha... if we can't serve one another how can we serve humanity... more importantly how can we ever serve our Guru?
now theres another thing here.... ok so like i mean i've done RAOks, or try too, but manytimes the reciepents are like WTF?!?! why are you doing this, i didn't ask for your help, either they view it as an act of pity or it just doesn't regester at all in their mind, that its just kindness.... i was just blown away by that. i guess it is truely hard to be genuinely nice...
daas i 'm out
* Updated thank you to Gupt Veer Ji for pointing it out

its not in jap ji sahib.. its in ardas
and why are you being a nindak? "even at baru sahib people werent serving each other".. were they supposed to serve each other and then tell you about it? you have no right to say that people werent "serving each other" it was probably in a way in which you cant comprehend..
also.... if you want to help people so bad find someplace to volunteer or do some sewa at the gurudwara.. theres a difference between giving unneeded help and giving help to someone who really needs it
