In recent couple of days, a surprising phenomenon moved me a lot.
It is really common to encounter a disabled student here. Some of them have to walk in the campus with the help of a wheelchair, others may walk on crutches; I have to admit a disappointing reality that in China we could probably seldom see the disabled in the University or even high school and primary school. There seems to be an unsaying discrimination upon the disabled. Some maybe are just afraid of the look on them while others believe that they can achieve less than normal people, for few of our schoolmates want to be the volunteers of Paralmypic Games to be held in Beijing in 2008. Being a Beijinger, I really ashamed of that. Is hospitality as a traditional Chinese good character only goes to a particular kind of people?! In VCU, I find that the helps of the disabled scatter everywhere---they can push the wheelchair-height button outside the dorm gate without the aid from another student, and get into the gate with its automatically open up. And there are wheelchair restroom everywhere.Even in the library, there is a special room with certain equipments for those who are deaf or blind or sth. to study easier. What's more, I find there are some dots under the sign of classroom, which is purposely designed for blind students; and a mini elevator set above the stairs outside the lecture hall just in case that students in wheelchair could easily go up.
And another thing I want to write is how good the other's English. The students of English major have read a lot of books than us. Their oral English is also wonderful. But I am really happy to have outstanding classmates, because I could have a stronger motivation to study harder in the future. Only in this case, I could become better and better.
I'm glad to say that I have already learned a lot from this exchange program. Thank you everybody.
