VCU Medical Center to Display Mobile Emergency Medical Unit

VCU Medical Center and the Medical Reserve Corps will showcase a Stabilization and Transportation in Place unit to demonstrate mobile emergency disaster relief.

The STIP unit will be on display Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. behind Bear Hall, located at 600 N. 10th St.

Designed for rapid, on-site patient stabilization and treatment during an emergency, a STIP mobile unit is housed in three tents and is equipped with six to 12 beds and full capabilities to perform surgery at a disaster site.

Visitors will have the opportunity to tour the unit and meet with members of the Richmond Medical Reserve Corps — local medical and public health professionals who contribute their expertise to community needs. MRC members also will be recruiting for health professional volunteers to serve in the greater Richmond area.
