The James River Green Building Council(JRGBC) is the Central Virginia Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council. The mission of the JRGBC is to create a positive impact on the region's built environment by accelerating the adoption of green building practices, technologies, policies, and standards. The JRGBC endeavors to move the green building industry forward
with market-based solutions. The chapter's membership is open and balanced and is comprised of leaders and visionaries from all segments of the building industry, including product manufacturers, environmental organizations, building owners, building professionals, utilities, city
government, research institutions, professional societies and universities.

We are looking for a motivated intern with a sincere interest in green building and willingness to work hard. The JRGBC is in the process of growing and developing as an organization, and the energy and motivation of the intern is essential to the JRGBC's success.

Job Description:
The Intern will be responsible for helping with program coordination, distribution of materials, event planning, office needs and general office projects. Intern will attend JRGBC programs and events free of charge.

Responsibilities include:
Assist with program administration for programs

Act as coordinator to local EGB Group and provide assistance with projects

Assist with development and distribution of JRGBC publications and outreach materials

Assist with grant research, grant writing and materials coordination

Help with website updates and creating content

Assist with general office work

Skills Needed:
Willingness to help with a variety of programs and tasks

Well organized and highly self-motivated

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Pagemaker, PowerPoint and Adobe Photoshop

Willingness to collaborate with staff and JRGBC membership and committees

Prefer college juniors, seniors, or graduates.

Web management and design skills highly desired, but not required.

Benefits:
Broad experience in a grassroots non-profit.

Training in office management skills, program administration, publications development and writing, grant research and writing, public relations and outreach.

Helping to expand the green building movement with local universities and colleges

Working for an organization that benefits the health and well-being of Central Virginia's residents and the building community

Timeframe for Internship:
Fall and Winter internships require a three-month commitment for 8-12 hours per week. Internship can take place year-round or through Spring Semester.

General Responsibilities

To provide office and administrative support, including but not limited to:

-Personnel administration duties for all classes of employees, including timekeeping, forms, tracking and monitoring completion of and compliance with agency HR processes

-Tracking and monitoring paperwork and invoicing for independent contractors, ensuring compliance with agency policies regarding independent contractors

-Tracking and reconciling VCU charges and expenses for Connect Network and Connect Richmond, and preparing records for audit

-Reviewing monthly reports, financial statements, payroll, telephone charges, physical plant charges and other relevant records, and reconciling with Connect Network's budget and statement information

Qualifications
Experience coordinating personnel processes and performing expense reconciliations. Ability to perform moderately complex mathematical calculations related to financial reconciliation. Ability to prepare written correspondence at or above the high school level. Experience tracking grants and donations using electronic database software. Significant experience in a nonprofit organization setting.

Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent training and experience preferred. Experience in a higher education setting preferred.

Knowledge of, and experience with VCU HR and finance policies, procedures and processes is a plus.
