Week 1
Movement for Actors Week of Sept. 19, 2005
LEVEL 1
Overall Objectives: Develop an expressive, spontaneous, free body
Develop a dynamic use of space
Specific Objectives:
The fundamentals, breath support where is your 'home base'?, self-awareness, observation skills of self and of others
Areas of BESS to be explored
Body - Fundamentals/Developmentals
Effort - emphasis of use of modulation of energy
Space - attention to the kinesphere and 3D possibilities
Shape - address shape flow and breath as the underpinning
LMA principles:
-Awareness of self/connections to a whole
-Where is one's 'home base', personal preferences?
-Fundamentals - begin with developmental underpinnings-breath, shape/flow; initiating core-based movements- core-distal, head-tail; sequential-simultaneous
-Integrate movement- inner to outer
Summary/Outcomes for the week:
-Body level investigation- noticed how their walk was unique, made them aware of height, of tension, of rhythm patterns
-Integration of imagery with movement explorations/partner observations
-Sharing in writing and verbal feedback
-Investigated change of level- encouraged a range of space and of movement qualities
-Assignment given- observe one person outside of the class- bring in notes and observations; continue to give partner feedback; continue to write personal notes on preferences and movement style

LEVEL 2
Objectve: Shakespeare supported by Laban
Class activity: Overview of use of LMA:
-LMA used to crystallize choices for physicalization and use of text eg.Body attitude and kinesphere used to explore character's baseline
-postural support of gesture
-efforts used to enliven text
-audition preparation: warm-up with dimensional scale, line run with physical exaggerations, comments and observations of individuals by partners.
"Body movement is not a symbol for expression, it is the expression"
