OR & baseball

Michael Trick wrote in his blog that MLB Yankee pitcher Russ Ohlendorf has a degree in operations research from Princeton. The only other celebrity with an OR degree that I know of is Dan Grimaldi, who played Patsy Parisi on The Sopranos.

Michael Trick created the 2005 and 2007 Major League Baseball Schedule (with Doug Bureman, George Nemhauser and Kelly Easton). Last year, he wrote about some of the press he received. Other news articles were in USA Today and Carnegie Mellon Today. Trick also has some more information about his work for the MLB from a technical viewpoint. (Last year, I shared some of these articles with the students in my modeling course for non-OR majors, and it was a big hit).
