Wednesday, July 29, 2009:Rollout
of the patch to all managed systems continues. As of this morning,
2,521 managed systems have applied the patch. Initial feedback
indicates that users are seeing a dramatic decrease in the impact
SOFTMON and VULSCAN have on their systems. Patch deployment tasks will
continue through Friday, July 31. Afterward, unpatched systems should
apply the updates automatically through their regularly-scheduled
vulnerability scans. If a system is having trouble applying the patch,
please contact
landesk@vcu.edu for assistance.
Beginning
on Monday July 27 a critical patch for LANDesk clients will be deployed
to all managed systems. The patch corrects a resource allocation
problem with some components of the LANDesk agent software,
specifically SOFTMON.EXE and VULSCAN.EXE. After the patch is
installed, these components should resume normal operation and no
longer consume large amounts of CPU and/or system memory resources.
Installation
of the patch requires running the LANDesk security scan several times,
which will be done automatically as the patch is applied. This process
should be invisible to most users and should not disrupt any normal
operation of the managed computers. This patch does not require a
reboot of the managed devices. Off campus systems will install the
patch automatically as they perform their regularly-scheduled security
scans.
The LANDesk operations team will be closely monitoring
the deployment of this patch. If you experience any problems with the
LANDesk software, or have any questions about this patch, we encourage
you to contact us at landesk@vcu.edu.
