Today we had a great basketball game after shopping, 8 guys in total. We were separated two teams and started to play. My teammate: George, John and T.

The game had 2 rounds, and we lost both, but we didn’t feel bad. We have two reasons. The first reason is that we got fun from the game. We also got a lot of points. And the second reason was that they had George, another George, John’s roommate, he was very tall and strong. We couldn’t defense him and he blocked me at least 3 times. So maybe a bit of unfair, we were satisfied to our performance.

We were exhausting after the game, it was really a long match, and I thought I need to do more exercises, the body condition was much worse than it in high school period.

Paper!! The deadline is coming, and I have not written a word about that, time is very limited now, I must start my work. Fortunately I have already had some ideas about the topic.
I want to write something about the difference between cultures. Although this is not a creative topic, I can write my paper with theory support and personal experience.
I took a class named cross culture management last year, it talked about a lot of theories and analysis tools about different culture. Some of them are very useful, so I think I can add some theories to my paper to make it more academic. Such as high context and low context culture, Hofstede’s cultural taxonomy…
At the same time, I can write the paper from my own perspective, I can combine the theories with what I have seen, what I have felt. Maybe I can also do some research to interns and our students to prove what I talk about.
I borrow some books related to that topic from library, and I also want to thank to Bryan, I also borrowed a book from him, I will start it from today’s evening.

1. Resources
Generally, VCU has more resources than FUDAN, such as gym and library. Students here can do the thing they want to do, but in FUDAN, sometimes most facilities are crowded. And the environment of dorm is also worse in FUDAN.
2. Humanization
I think many facilities in my university lacks of humanization, that is need to be improved. The designer and missionary should think more about the user, because this is their duty.
3. Services
All faculty here are very nice, they can help you when you are in trouble. FUDAN faculty should learn from them, they should know they get salaries because of their services to us.
4. Competition
You know in china universities don’t face much competition with each other, because in china there are more students want to go to university, the demand is much higher than supply. No competition causes that universities don’t need to improve. I suggest bring more competition to our country’s university.
5. Honesty and Keep promise
This is a social issue, not a university issue, china society lacks of honesty, people will trust people who they know very much, so many tricks and fakes makes everyone have to protect themselves. Not keeping promise is also a serious problem in china, but the situation becomes better and better.

Hiking is one of my favorite sports, especially in a mountain. I am not sure whether I have the opportunity to climb a mountain in America. This weekend I have this opportunity, we climbed a small mountain. No one knew its name but who cared.

It was very tired to hiking a long way in a mountain, the mountain was quiet and I can only heard my heartbeat, I was in the front of our team and I was the first one to reach our destination, I was very excited at the finishing time, and took pictures to the good view from higher position with my friends.

Someone saw deer in the mountain, but I didn’t. I was happy that I had not seen any animals in the mountain, because I heard that bears and tigers also existed there. In all I have a good time, though exhausting.

Mr. Dream is a Liberian, his name is Dan Ream, and so he called himself dream. He is a cool guy though he is old. He showed us the functions of the library and taught us how to use the website to find the wanted books. He was full of sense of humor that everyone couldn’t stop laughing during the tour. He loved his job of a Liberian and he shared lot of his individual thoughts. In the end he took a picture to us and uploaded to his blog: http://blog.vcu.edu/dream/
We will meet again on this Tuesday, he will teach us how to use the google more efficiently, Mr. dream, glad to see you again.

Consumerism, of course, is one of the most important things in American culture. I want to say something about consumerism. Actually, we can’t say it is completely right or wrong.

Advantageous aspect:
Consumerism can promote economics growth, people have more demand, they will pay for more money; and then supply will be stimulated, people will produce more things, as the same time they become richer and can buy more things… consumerism hade made this country become more and more prosperous, and now they made the rest of the world become more and more prosperous. A good example is china, so many “made in china” is here, which provide a lot of job to Chinese people.

Disadvantageous aspect:
People spend too much money and buy too many things, do all the things really needed? I think the resources are limited, one day they should be used up. Thrifty should be educated to public, the surplus of production shouldn’t happen, we must think further, think about human’s future or something like that.
