Overview
The Public Relations Intern assists with the planning, development, and execution of communications plans; helps manage VHDA’s internal and external communications and image; and completes other public relations duties as assigned.
PR Internship Duties include:

Assist in the development and execution of plans, events, and activities that support VHDA communication goals and objectives.

Assist with the promotion of VHDA by writing articles, media advisories, news releases, or other documents deemed necessary for the successful completion of VHDA communications objectives.

Place calls to media to follow-up on news releases or other media contacts in an effort to secure coverage of a VHDA news item, activity, event, etc.

Research affordable housing articles and distribute them electronically to VHDA staff.

Work within a client-focused team setting, interacting with all departments within VHDA to get real-world experience and views of the collaborative nature of the business environment.

Other duties may be assigned. All duties should be executed in the spirit of PRSA
(Public Relations Society of America) professional guidelines.

Requirements
Available to work 15-20 hours per week minimum
Available for a minimum of 6 months, prefer twelve months
Must be enrolled in school during entire internship
Commitment
This long-term internship position will report directly to the Public Relations Manager. The internship will require a 15-20 hour weekly commitment with mutually agreeable work hours scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Compensation

TV Producer Intern Positions – “VCU Inside Out�

VCU News Services will be supervising the production of a VCU-TV/HD program, “VCU Inside Out,� beginning Spring Semester 2007, and is offering TV Producer internships to students to produce the programs.

Students will be able to get valuable experience using high-definition production equipment, including cameras and post-production editing. Students will be responsible for the overall production of the programs – planning, shooting, editing, and in some cases, talent.

Previous hands-on experience with scriptwriting, broadcast quality EFP and digital non-linear editing is preferred. Students will be expected to work 10-20 hours per week depending on the number of credits to be earned. Unpaid internships could lead to paid positions in succeeding semesters.

“VCU Inside Out� is an interview program that features high profile and interesting people associated with VCU, such as lecturers or speakers, visitors, former faculty, collaborators or current members of the university community. The programs will be submitted to WCVW in Richmond for possible broadcast and will be accessible on the VCU Web site.

Technical Business Writer Assistant- PAID Internship

The Virginia Retirement System is seeking an assistant to the technical business writers. Position involves helping the technical writing staff with various projects, including the creation of training material, manuals, business processes, printed and web based materials.

Qualifications: Must have the ability to write clearly and to edit. Must have the ability to write for a variety of audiences with different levels of knowledge and interest. Knowledge of retirement plans and call centers, experience with a variety of media, and the ability to manage multiple projects at all levels of the organization is desirable. Must be able to work independently.

Technical business writing experience or a demonstrated ability to write is required. A degree (or working towards a degree) in English, Communications or closely related field is preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft WORD is required.

Hourly pay range of $15.00 - $20.00 depending on education and experience. A resume or VRS application along with a writing sample received in Human Resources will be given consideration. No Benefits.
