PUBLIC RELATIONS INTERNSHIP - Scenic Virginia

Organization:
Scenic Virginia is the sole statewide conservation organization dedicated to the preservation, protection and enhancement of the Commonwealth’s scenic beauty and community character. As advocates for Virginia’s scenic resources, we educate citizens, businesses, and elected officials about the economic and cultural benefits of preserving our extraordinary natural beauty. During the annual General Assembly Session, we monitor legislation for bills that might have an effect on Virginia’s visual environment. During the rest of the year, we execute projects, advise local groups, run programs, and work with government agencies and other conservation organizations to promote scenic conservation.

Intern Responsibilities:

In an effort similar to the Chesapeake Bay Alliance’s “What’s Your Watershed?” project, Scenic Virginia will be asking “What’s Your Viewshed?” The point of this project is to sensitize the citizens of the Commonwealth to the economic, cultural, historic and scenic value of our most important viewsheds.

Supervised responsibilities include the following:

• Recommend methods for improving press relations.
• Develop a card catalog of Scenic Virginia’s resource materials.
• Assist in the development of a Scenic Toolkit.
• Assist in the development of a Scenic Resources Conference with the Department of Conservation & Recreation.

Applicant Qualifications: Interest in learning about the challenges and rewards of doing PR for a nonprofit organization. Familiarity with Office applications (Word, Access, Publisher, PowerPoint) is preferred. Strong writing skills, an interest in conservation, and a good sense of humor are a plus.
