SPJ Pulliam/Kilgore Internship

Society of Professional Journalists - Pulliam/Kilgore Internship
Each summer the Society of Professional Journalists, the nation’s largest and most broad-based journalism-advocacy organization, features two prestigious internships for undergraduate, recently graduated or graduate students. The internships focus on Freedom of Information issues and their connection to journalism, society and governmental institutions. The successful candidates must possess strong writing skills and a solid understanding of the subjects of journalism, the Freedom of Information Act and First Amendment principles.

Positions: One based in Indianapolis (National Headquarters), one based in Washington, D.C.
Stipend: $400 per week for 10 weeks
Term: Negotiable 10 week term commencing in May or June.
Qualifications: Entering (in Fall 2009) senior year or recently graduated from undergraduate studies in journalism; or current graduate student in journalism; or current law student with background in journalism (preferable for Washington, D.C., position).
Application Process: Submit completed application, resume, one-page essay and at most five writing samples.

Job Description:
Colleagues is a marketing, public relations and sales promotion consulting business specializing in assisting new and foreign-based companies navigate the channels necessary to develop business in the U.S. marketplace.

Our clients are primarily manufacturers or importers of high-end consumer products in home furnishings and gift markets. We serve as consultants for our clients in all facets of marketing, including product design and development, trade show participation, advertising, public relations, product publicity and sales promotion.

We offer target list building, as well as implementation of subsequent mailings key to marketing and public relations efforts.

We design, develop and deliver press materials to achieve necessary product/company publicity in print, internet and broadcast media.

The intern will experience a broad exposure to consumer product marketing by working directly with Sue Williams and by being involved in all facets of our work, including client meetings, research, data entry, internet marketing, as well as the preparation, distribution and follow-up of press and marketing materials.

As the office is in the Historic District of Church Hill, free parking is readily available.
Hours are flexible to support the academic schedule of the intern.

Applicant Qualifications:
Computer skills – preferably comfortable with Macintosh and select graphics programs.
Familiarity with internet marketing techniques.
A keen interest in learning about and assisting with the creative marketing and public relations services which Colleagues offers its clients.
