Marketing Intern

AFM is a non-profit (501c3) organization supported entirely through tax-deductible donations from individuals and churches. AFM receives no financial support from the Episcopal or Anglican Church. As an independent mission agency, its financial health rests upon strong relationships with parishes and individuals. Founded in 1994, AFM has sent 35 missionaries to 9 unreached people groups. The goal of AFM is to see churches planted in the 25 least evangelized peoples on earth. Currently, AFM has 19 missionaries serving in 7 unreached people groups.

The Marketing Internship program at Anglican Frontier Missions is a 3 month volunteer position. The intern will have a flexible schedule, 10-15 hours per week, Feb-Apr 2009 and work closely with the Director.

Qualifications
• Experience in marketing, business, fund-raising, or event-planning

Purpose:
• To provide practical experience in marketing for a Christian mission agency
• To identify priority markets for AFM in North America
• To develop marketing plan for February/May 2009
• To implement marketing plan with appropriate internet, phone, hard copy etc materials
• To assist with potential fund-raising events

Intern Responsibilities:

• Handle paperwork and maintain files on all of the client’s activities, their competitors and the industry. Maintain “Client Notebooks” for assigned accounts, detailing past work and work-in-progress, and all pertinent information needed for accurate proofreading and meeting of client standards.
• Assist with account service production schedule to make sure all media and projects proceed according to plan and deadlines, drawing attention of account service staff to potential problems before they occur.
• Proofreading copy, artwork, comps and color keys; see that all work completes the standard agency approval process before being reviewed by clients or turned over to suppliers.
• Participate in at least one client meeting prior to completion of internship.
• Other duties as assigned.

• College Junior or Senior, Graduate Student
• Microsoft Office skills, Illustrator or PhotoShop preferred
• Excellent writing/communications skills
• Knowledge of advertising is required
• Ability to work on computers or the ability to learn the software quickly

The National Cancer Institute’s Health Communications Internship Program (HCIP) is now accepting applications for its Fall 2009 intern class.

The National Cancer Institute (NCI), the largest of the 27 institutes and centers comprising the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is the Federal Government's principal agency for cancer research and training. The NCI coordinates the National Cancer Program, which conducts and supports research, training, health information dissemination, and other programs with respect to the cause, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of cancer, rehabilitation from cancer, and the continuing care of cancer patients and the families of cancer patients.
The NCI recognizes that health information dissemination is key to raising public awareness about new cancer treatments, support for cancer patients and their families, and prevention strategies. To that end, in 1975 the NCI established the Health Communications Internship Program (HCIP) to attract individuals interested in careers in health communications and science writing.
The HCIP gives highly qualified graduate students and recent graduate school graduates the opportunity to participate in vital health and science communications projects in one of the many offices that make up the NCI. Interns will select an area of emphasis: health communications or science writing. Six-month and one-year internship terms are offered.
Successful health communications applicants have some science background as well as experience and/or education in any of the following areas: public health, epidemiology, public relations, health education, communications, science writing, statistics, social marketing, or journalism. Health communications interns:

o Plan, develop, and promote cancer education programs and materials (including Web-based) for the public, cancer patients, or health professionals
o Gain experience in pre-testing and evaluating cancer prevention and treatment messages, publications, materials, and programs that reach the American public
o Participate in professional meetings and training seminars

Successful science writing applicants have a science background plus experience in public relations and/or news writing with the ability to translate technical information into copy suitable for a lay audience. Science writing interns:

o Write fact sheets and press releases
o Answer inquiries from the press
o Attend and report on scientific meetings
o Participate in professional meetings and training seminars

Main Line Broadcasting Internship

Main Line Broadcasting is currently offering internship for our 3 radio stations: 98.9 Liberty, 93.1 The Wolf, and 107.3 BBT.

Internship would involve working with the entire operation from the front desk to sales to promotions to programming for school credit.

Production:
• The Intern will spend time in the Production Dept. with the Production Director learning how commercials are written, produced, and dubbed to carts, how on-air promos are produced, and how the production director keeps track of all incoming production to get on air.

Programming:
• Spend time with Program Director to learn why the stations are programmed they are-from personalities to music to target demographics to format specifications, etc.
• Spend time in the on-air studio to observe some of the different day-part shifts including handling incoming calls from listeners, working the on-air board, and how personalities/disc jockeys handle their shift.

Promotions:
• Spend time with the Promotion Director and Street Team Coordinator and assist on personal appearances, station promotions, and other promotional events. The intern would also be involved in all station promotion meetings, as well as outside promotion meetings with clients, organizations, etc.

Sales, Traffic, General/Administrative:
• Spend time with different individuals from the sales department and understand how sales work, what accounts the different stations go after, how commercial spots are handled from client to rep to production, how the traffic department handles station logs, work the front desk and meet with our listeners, etc.

**We are seeking junior or senior students seeking college credits towards a Mass Communications Degree. Internship would be on-the-job training and requires motivated and hard-working individuals seeking a future in the media field. **
