Public Relations Internship at the Science Museum of Virginia
Description of Organization:
The Science Museum of Virginia is a state institution. We are a hands-on science center with hundreds of interactive exhibit experiences and an IMAX®DOME theater. The Virginia Aviation Museum and Danville Science Center are divisions of the Science Museum.
Intern Responsibilities:
Researching and writing basic news releases for statewide distribution. Work with PR Manager to help meet needs of broadcast, print and web-based reporters and photographers. Assist in creating press kit material for major events. Find news coverage and maintain electronic news clipping files. Scan hard copy coverage. Maintain monthly events calendars. Work with marketing and other museum departments in developing and executing PR events to generate news coverage of the Science Museum, its programs and projects.
Intern Qualifications:
Candidate should have strong writing skills. Knowledge of journalism and PR are helpful. Knowledge of Word, EXCEL and ability to scan is a plus. Interns should be prepared to work in a business environment. They must have the ability to work on deadline. They also must be able to work alone as well as part of a team.
Other:
This internship is offered year round. Hours are flexible. This is an unpaid internship. The Science Museum is located at 2500 West Broad Street, about a mile from the VCU Monroe Park Campus.
