Hanover Habitat for Humanity

Description of the Organization:

Hanover Habitat for Humanity is an ecumenical nonprofit Christian Organization committed to eliminating substandard housing through the rehabilitation and building of simple, decent homes for those in need in Hanover County. Hanover Habitat works in partnership with qualified families and community volunteers, including businesses and organizations, to build and sell houses with non-profit, interest free mortgages.
The ReStore is the ongoing and active fundraising effort of Hanover Habitat for Humanity. The ReStore sells new and used building materials, appliances and furniture. Everything from the back door to the front door and everything in between. All of our proceeds go to our support of mission of building homes. The ReStore is open on Monday thru Saturday from 9AM until 5 PM. We also accept donations of quality furniture, building materials and appliances

General Job duties of Public Relations intern:
• Set up and establish both twitter and face book page for Hanover Habitat for Humanity ReStore.
• Researching and targeting the correct audience that we are looking to reach with this social network
• Maintain and update these tools 2 to 3 times a week
• Train staff on how to continue use of Twitter and Face book
• Work with staff on collecting data from our current customers so that they maybe add to this media
• Assist in creating news releases for major events

Qualifications applicants should possess:
• Candidate should have strong writing skills.
• Should have strong skills in the use of Twitter and Face book
• Should be prepared to work a business casual environment
• Ability to work in a team and alone with minimal guidance
• Ability to research and target audience that will help maximize the exposure of the Restore.
• Junior or Senior that has an interest in advertising or media.
• Must be a quick learner when it comes to all things computers.
• Must have a strong work ethic and be able to work independently

The position is unpaid. However, this is eligible for class credit if approved by VCU. Hours are flexible but a minimum of 10 hours per week is required.
