Sports Journalism Internship (Unpaid)-Soccer Correspondent
The intern will be assigned to cover the Richmond Kickers, a USL-2 club.
Description of Organization:
International Soccer Network is a news agency based in Northeastern Ohio that provides coverage of international soccer via an online format. The United Soccer Leagues (USL), Major League Soccer (MLS), Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL-Pro), the U.S. and Canadian Men’s National Team, CONCACAF events, and England’s Football Conference are covered on a regular basis by professional writers, photographers, and interns.
Our vision is to promote 'the beautiful game" in the United States and Canada, sharing our passion and expertise for the game. Our agency depends on the Internet for the distribution of information. Our website is supplemented by social networking applications and radio/podcast appearances.
General Job Duties of Sports Journalism Interns:
Compose match reports for home games
Create feature articles
Conduct interviews with players, coaches, and front office staff
Build positive relationship between fans and our agency
Compose offseason reports (season reviews, season previews)
Evaluate press releases for newsworthiness
Attend press conferences and Media Day events (as needed)
Utilize social networking platforms to provide an alternative format for our news distribution
Qualifications for Applicants:
Effective writing skills
Knowledge of social networking applications (Twitter, Facebook, blogs, etc.)
Knowledge of soccer or willingness to learn about the sport
Internship Training includes:
Editorial review of all published content
Frequent discussion of the writing process/sports writing techniques
Instructional materials (available upon request)
