Description of Organization
The Progress-Index, with 12,000 circulation daily and Sunday, is a p.m. paper Monday through Friday and an a.m. on the weekends. The newspaper has been in existence since 1865, but we are a growing multi-media company. Petersburg is a historic town with a growing, vibrant arts community.
Intern Responsibilities
We are looking for an aggressive self-starter who can find stories and tell them in a compelling way in print and online. Coverage would include breaking news and general assignments. The reporter will be given an opportunity to look beyond daily events and uncover the trends in the coverage area and explain why it matters to readers. Must be able to handle multiple assignments, work effectively and productively under deadline pressure and a have a willingness to develop and grow as a journalist. Qualified candidates will also have an opportunity to work in multi-media with our growing online presence.
Intern Qualifications
Applicants should have strong, demonstrated writing and grammar skills and a solid grasp of AP style. Prior experience at college newspaper or freelance is helpful.
