Summer Internship Program Information / Application
The Virginia Association of Broadcasters (VAB) offers PAID Summer Internship Programs available to students entering their Junior or Senior year ONLY at a college or university that offers undergraduate classes in the following courses of study: Computer Science, Business, Electronic Media, Engineering, Graphic Design and Mass Communications including Advertising, Journalism (print or broadcast), Marketing and Public Relations.

The Summer Internship Program is an 8-week program beginning Monday, June 7, 2010 and ending Friday, July 30, 2010. All interns should plan to work 40-hours per week at $7.25/hour. A total of 32 students statewide will be selected for the program and all interns will be placed at a radio or television station in the state of Virginia. Every effort is made to place a student in their geographical area of preference; however, this cannot be guaranteed.

Only students who are Virginia residents OR a non-resident student currently attending an accredited college or University in the state of Virginia are eligible for the Summer Internship Program.

Rules For Applying
1. In order to qualify for the intern program, applicants must meet the following conditions:
o Good moral character.
o Exhibit grades in previous academic work, which in the judgment of VAB, are adequate to give reasonable assurance of success in completing college.
o Select a course of study relating to a broadcasting career.
o Intent to pursue a career in broadcasting.
o Apply for the grant in the manner outlined herein, and furnish all the information requested on the official application form. Do not send a resume; it will not be used. Only the application will be sent to the judging committee.
2. All applicant forms must be postmarked by February 12, 2010 (please mail; faxes will not be accepted). The application must be completed in full or it will not be considered. Applications postmarked after February 12, 2010 will not be considered.
3. The Virginia Association of Broadcasters will contact applicants selected to receive a summer internship via email and/or phone. It is imperative that emails addresses and telephone numbers are printed legibly on the application.
4. If selected, the applicant will be required to contact the station for which he or she has been paired and to schedule an interview with the assigned station prior to a commitment by the student or station for the internship position.
5. This is an internship program that constitutes a temporary employment relationship with either a radio or television station. As such, accepted applicants will receive limited benefits and will not be eligible for unemployment compensation at the end of the eight (8) week period.

• Assist with radio and print initiatives surrounding a public education campaign including input to design of mailer, radio script writing, radio buying, and project management of printer, mail house, radio stations and voice talent.
• General office and project support for the Marketing & Communications Department.

Qualifications applicants should possess:
• Candidate should have strong organizational skills and self motivation to stay on task to meet non-negotiable event deadline.
• Experience in Adobe Premiere Pro or similar video editing software.
• Experience in Adobe InDesign graphic design software preferred.
• Ability to work as part of a team and take creative direction yet vocal enough tto advocate for your creative perspective.
• Ability to multi-task and have flexibility to adjust to ever changing priorities and timeline changes.

Internship training includes:
• Knowledge of the non-profit in-house marketing, donor and volunteer relationships and retention, special events, and culture of the non-profit sector.

ChildFund International exists to help deprived, excluded and vulnerable children have the capacity to become young adults, parents and leaders who bring lasting and positive change in their communities. VCU Social Neuroscience Lab - Web Design Internship (PAID)

About Us: The VCU Social Neuroscience Lab is run by Kirk Warren Brown, PhD, in the Department of Psychology. We are seeking an intern with solid web design and technical skills who can bring fresh ideas to bear in creating a new laboratory web site.

Primary Duties: Discovery, design, and build. Navigation, graphics, perhaps flash. No online forms, databases, or other interactive applications. The intern will have most of the creative control of this project. Dr. Brown will lay out the basic content and design parameters and supply the text. The intern takes it from there.

Qualifications: Use Macromedia, Adobe Suite, and/or whatever tools you’ve developed some expertise in to create a successful design outcome. Must have own hardware and software. That means you can work from home, the beach, wherever, but be ready to meet briefly with Dr. Brown on a regular (e.g., bi-weekly) or ‘as needed’ basis. Once we’re on the same page re. design, a lot of room to work independently will be offered.

Compensation: Fall term, 2008 internship credit (1-3, depending on your anticipated design and execution time) + 4-figure $ stipend (to be negotiated).

"American's Most Wanted" - Multiple Internship Opportunities!

“America’s Most Wanted”
INTERNSHIP POSITIONS FALL 2008

The national FOX hit television show, “America’s Most Wanted” is seeking interns for the fall 2008 semester. The open positions available are in archives, news, production, website, publicity, and hotline departments.

You must receive college credit for the entire semester, along with a letter or form from the university stating enrollment status.

Please pay close attention and respond accordingly if you are interested in seeking an internship with our show. Please follow ALL directions to apply, or your resume and cover letter will not be considered.

In your COVER LETTER, please state the following:

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:


ARCHIVE INTERNSHIP:

Student will be responsible for finding footage for broadcast from the AMW library and other sources. Indexing and archiving material from current shows and work closely with producers on tasks when needed.


NEWS INTERNSHIP:
Student will be required to research, write, and pitch crime related stories, along with assist producers with daily tasks. This position will allow you to sit in on edit sessions to help create stories for air, and write stories for www.amw.com. You will also help the Managing Editor with daily assignments and tasks, attend show meetings, and go in the field to assist crews when elements for the show are taped. At times you could be required to help producers with viewer mail, and requesting news footage from news stations across the country.


PRODUCTION INTERNSHIP:

Student will be required to watch and assist with posting the show. Understand and assist with booking of edit suites, timing out the show, and learning about how to post AMW. You will sit in on edit sessions with editors and offer opinions on shots and transitions for story segments. Intern candidate will assist the news department with researching and writing stories for television and www.amw.com, produce a promo each week for air, take a stab at writing show teases and produce. The intern poster project is also apart of the duties (a project that lets the office know who the interns are ie: taking pictures, writing bio’s, etc.). Go in the field to assist with taping the show and assist in the field with re-creations of scenes for air.

WEBSITE INTERNSHIP:
Student will be required to write, research, and post stories for www.amw.com. You will assist the website manager and department with content, and pitch ideas for future web stories. You will be required to learn how to size and post pictures on the website, and help to create photo’s and graphics to be posted. You will also have the opportunity to learn and work hand-in-hand with our elite web team.


PUBLICITY INTERNSHIP:
Student will be required to work in the publicity department to help promote “America’s Most Wanted.” The intern will be required to assist with writing advanced listings, help to produce and write promotional segments, and contact news organizations to set up interviews. The student will also be required to write, research, make calls, assist the public with John Walsh requests, go out on shooting locations to assist publicity department with requests, and many, many more promotional needs.


HOTLINE INTERNSHIP:
One position is for during the week in our Bethesda, Maryland office, and the other position is on Saturday nights in our Washington, DC studio. The student will be required to work every Saturday night through internship period (this is when our show airs on FOX). The intern will be required to create preliminary synopsis document on cases, distribute tips, work closely with law enforcement the night of the show to ensure tips are followed up on, faxing, researching cases and information on fugitives, and to assist with writing hotline reports. The student will also be required assist with taking photo’s, assist with live shots (behind the scenes) to other news organizations, and many other hands on tasks the night of the show. This is a great way to gain experience in television and law enforcement with only putting in eight hours, one day a week. If you choose to apply for the position during the week, it’s the same requirements, with the exception of the live shots, working hand-in-hand with investigators, and the experience of working in our studio.

GRAPHICS DEPARTMENT:
The intern will use Photoshop, After Effects, and Curious Mapping software to create elements for the show on a weekly basis. The intern will be able to work with a talented group of 2D and 3D artists to generate ideas and create graphics for internal segments within the show. The candidate will be able to participate in show meetings, attend green screen shoots, and be involved with tapings in our Washington, D.C. crime center. The intern will also learn a different aspect of motion graphics including green screens, motion tracking and photo manipulation.

All positions are very hands on, and you will be able to overlap and engage in other departments if you desire.

The Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA) is seeking a graphic design intern for the summer (June 2 to August 29, 2008) to assist with VSCPA’s communications and marketing graphic design projects. Selected intern will receive experience designing within a corporate brand and style standards for print and electronic mediums, collaborating with a marketing team, and gain other valuable knowledge while working for a leading nonprofit, professional association.

Internship Responsibilities
• Design print and electronic marketing and communications materials
• Assist graphic designer and marketing director as needed
• Perform additional administrative and other duties as needed

Requirements

• Ability to work 10-20 hours per week (Monday to Friday) between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
• Available for entire summer (June 2 to August 29, 2008)
• Full-time enrollment in undergraduate or graduate program in graphic design, art or communications
• GPA of 3.0 or higher (in major)
• Initiative and ability to work independently

Skills/Knowledge
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills and attention to detail
• Excellent spatial and design skills
• Knowledge of InDesign, PhotoShop and Adobe Illustrator (CS3 preferred)
• Knowledge of Dreamweaver
• Experience with Microsoft Windows, PC-based software (Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Internet Explorer)

Compensation
• This position is a paid internship. The hourly rate is dependent on academic excellence, qualifications and experience.
• VSCPA offers free parking at its Innsbrook office location
• College credit as appropriate

Local Church Seeking Intern

Faith Life Tabernacle International Ministries is a non-denominational church located in Henrico County, just 10 minutes from downtown Richmond. FLTIM has been servicing the Richmond community for over 25 years. It also provides outreach support to Guyana, India, Trinidad, and W. Africa. Its support and services include: Winner’s Way (rehabilitation program), Guyana/India Feeding Program, India orphanage and home for widows, and community outreaches.

We want to start a magazine that would expand and highlight our church’s mission. We need someone to work with our magazine staff that is knowledgeable in the areas of editing, layout and design, and public relations. Expertise is not a must, but enthusiasm is.
