VCU Police Communications- Hourly Requirements

Policy Change: Hourly Communications Officers Scheduling Requirements

Effective today, February 7, 2005, All Hourly employees of the VCU Police Communications Center must adhere to the same Standards of Conduct and services as outlined in the Department Policy and Procedures.

HOURLY COMMUNICATIONS OFFICERS REQUIREMENTS:

All Hourly employees must complete the full Department of Criminal Justice Services Training. This includes:

• Successfully complete a Certified DCJS Basic Dispatch Academy.
• Successfully complete the VCU Police Communications Training Program.
• Successfully complete the NCIC/VCIN “A� Level Operator Certification.
• Must work a minimum of 24 hours per month.
• Must work one weekend (Saturday and Sunday) a month.

SCHEDULING REQUIREMENTS:

1. All hourly employees must submit monthly work schedule by the 1st week of the
month for the following month. Supervisors or the Assistant Manager will email you
the monthly schedule on an Excel Spread Sheet.

2. Hourly employees will select days indicated on the schedule from the vacant green
slots. Document times and list them under the Excel Attachment in the email and send it back to Management by the close of business on the fifth day. Part time employees will then receive an email back listing the days which have been added to the schedule.

3. Shifts and work assignments will be documented on the Daily Communications
Work Schedule.

4. If an employee is unable to work their requested days they must notify the On-duty
Supervisor or the Assistant Manager immediately.

5. Any cancellation of three (3) or more days in a six-month period, that employee may
be subject to termination.

Description of General Responsibilities Operate 2-way radio system including VA Criminal Information Network terminal/National Crime Information Computer Teletype System, and the University security technology group alarm system. Dispatches calls for service, both routine and emergency. Provide information and assist as needed. Input, researches, and retrieves information utilizing teletype equipment and computer terminals. Completes and maintains documentation of logs and files. Able to learn complex data system. Monitor/access computer alarm system.

Qualifications Must be willing to work any shift of a 24 hour period, and be available for emergency on-call overtime.
