Journalists and Writers Needed to Help Special Olympics
JOURNALISTS AND WRITERS NEEDED
·Gain journalism and writing experience
·Add an impressive project(s) to your résumé
·See your article published
· Assist with a noteworthy cause
Special Olympics is looking for bright, enthusiastic aspiring journalists and writers who can research and write feature stories surrounding our athletes going to the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Shanghai, China this October. Journalists will be asked to:
1. Conduct research by speaking with athletes, coaches, family members, etc. to discover unique and extraordinary stories about the athletes, their challenges with having an intellectual disability, and their accomplishments and successes (such as excelling in sports, going to school, holding a job, playing an instrument, participating in community service, and other types of activities that have impacted their life in a positive way).
2. Draft a compelling feature story(s) on the athlete from the information gathered.
This is a great way for students to experience journalism from research to print, to have a noteworthy project for their résumés and to experience Special Olympics and the movement. Top stories will be published in SPIRIT Magazine, a Special Olympics publication with worldwide circulation, and will also be shared with national media outlets.
