Images of Technology and the Future
This is the thermos that I told you about a few weeks ago. It was my dad's elementary school thermos.

What are your thoughts about these images? Do they have any relevance to our world today? How could you use these types of images in your teaching?

It's interesting how in the first image they don't have helmets on. Also her dress is really funny.

These images, at least for me are classic! I loved getting a new lunch box and thermos at the start of every school year. These thermoses and boxes have always reflected popular icons, stars and comic characters form the ages. This would be a fabulous way to introduce history and initiate a discussion of popular history and perhaps how things fall in and out of fashion. The fact that these are not popular or even necessary in this instant/fast food culture.
what has taken the place of the thermos in the backpack of school children

I simply wonder what your father was thinking of these developments and how he deals with current technology. I just wonder how can we shorten the gap between people who are digital natives or those who are unaccustomed to the sudden growth and constant change in technology.

I think popular culture is always important, it represents our very own everyday reality, including trends from the time, fashion, design, and what people where thinking about. In the case of these thermos, we can basically get into the heat of the moment, i.e., space exploration.
