Last Class

Tonight was the last class meeting for the technology class I taught this semester. We went to the Apple store at the mall near Richmond. The person there showed us all different types of things that we can do with iPhoto and iMovie. He did a demo of how to make a calendar or a book in iPhoto. With iMovie, we learned about all the different transitions, etc. These were really interesting and the templates can make your work look quite professional. However, it is limiting. It seems as if they get you trapped in the "it's a Mac- it's easy" thinking. But, if you want to go beyond the template, then it is quite difficult. So, it seems easy to drop your photos into their templates, but when you want your own template, then it's difficult. Is it an appropriate educational activity for students to drop photos into a template? If not, how can we work with the supposedly education-friendly Macs to do high quality education for our students?
