Frogger vs Blogger

My question of the day is: if I ask my students to create a blog and then put it out there in cyberspace for all to hear, am I putting them at risk, and if I am, how I can lower that risk. I have the sae question about Furl, delic.io.us. Subquestion.... if I am perfectly safe doing these activities with them, will their parents believe that their children are at risk, and ask them not to participate, and then what would I do with those children during class?

This relates to frogger because you try to avoid getting hit by cars in that atari game.

I have also been concerned about my students on blogs. Most of them seem to know not to post personal information, although a few students did post their full names at one point. I have the settings so that I can go in and edit them, so I removed the last names. I work at a fairly litigious school community so I am usually pretty careful about things.

Thanks for explaining the relationship to "frogger." I needed that!

I woudl suggest that you make a del.icio.us page in your name or your "code" name. Then, if the page is attached to you, the students would only need to have the username and password to make posts. You could have a page per class with students adding relevant links as a group. Obviously, you'd need to pick a username and password that would be easy to remember and would not connect to you or to them. I think that would keep you safe. Also, you may want to let kids/parents opt out of something if you are this nervous. I would suggest sharing the idea with the principal first and then following that up with an email so that you're sure you are not violating any written (or unwritten) policies. I think you'll be fine!

Quite handy info.!! Thanks buddy
