So I've decided I'm going to try and keep up my blog even though I'm not being graded on it anymore. I'll try and post whenever I get the chance/remember.
Barack Obama's Inauguration was yesterday, we officially have a new president: President Barack Obama. Doesn't that sound nice?
A friend and I were talking about how odd the concept is that we have a new president. I'm 19 years old and for the past eight years we've had the same president, that's a long time.
One of the many cool things about Obama is that he first person I've ever voted for (back during the primary I voted for him too) won. That's a pretty cool feeling.
In other news, the semester is going well so far, my schedule is much more relaxed and my teachers all seem very nice.
I'm working on a project for Space Research that has been a lot of fun to do. We're making a "trophy head" out of cardboard. I'm making a snake coming out of the wall and it is very long but if I successfully attach it to the wall it should be pretty impressive.
I didn't realize how much I've missed working with 3-D materials. Over the break I made three more jewelery sets for my portfolio and really liked beading again, and now working with something like cardboard has been a lot of fun. I did ceramics for three years and I love getting my hands in and around a piece. I feel so much more involved with the piece than with 2-D pieces.
Graphic Design is still my first choice of major but more and more I think Craft & Material Studies would be a lot of fun. It's my second choice right now because of the simple fact that it's much easier to get a job in the design field than the craft field. I don't want to have to do craft shows to pay my bills, it's just not reliable enough.
I'll post pictures of my projects as I finish them, there should be some cool ones this semester.
