Happy V Day

I think I've picked a fitting song for today. Nah I'm not that cynical but still, being single on Valentine's Day still sucks.

My friend Eleanor and I bought heart shaped pizzas from Papa Johns to celebrate the occasion.

(Not my picture but you get the idea.)

I didn't get much done today, was busy being lazy and easily distracted. One thing that was distracting was the fact that today was the start of the housing lottery. Despite applying on the first we could I got stuck with number 1030. Luckily I got pulled in by Eleanor into Cary & Belvidere, the only dorm left with women's rooms. Apparently all the girl's rooms in the other dorms were filled by 4:00 today. That's insane.

Despite being brand new I didn't really want to live in C&B since it's the farthest one from the art buildings. We have until March 31st to back out without any penalty so we're going to look at apartment between now and then to see if we can find something better.

This is the snake I was working on for space class. Since this picture I've added some brown scales to him. When I get a picture of that I'll post it or just replace this one. I'm pretty happy with how it came out, but I'm very happy that it was of about five chosen to be put in the hallway. (For those that don't know, the hallway of Bowe St is where teachers display their student's work.)

I got an A on my first surface project which I was very happy about, and we just turned in our second project which I hope I did well on. We had make a paper cut-out, similar to a snow flake, that the components of a narrative. I chose to do the first Harry Potter book. (Of course right?) I realized that was kind of impossible since there's way too much going on to put it all in so I decided to just put the trials at the end that Harry has to face to get to the stone. It came out all right and my teacher seemed to think it worked, we'll see.

The project we're working on right now for space is not my favorite. We could make anything as long as it used good positive and negative space, and our main tool (we're using wood) has to be the jigsaw. I had, what I thought, was a cool idea to make a table with spiral legs and three different levels. My teacher said it didn't have enough meaning. After a couple of boring ideas I came up with a spherical fountain.

If it works, it's going to be the basic skeleton of a sphere, inside a basin, with the water coming out of the top of the sphere.

I have tried to make a fountain before in ceramics, but it didn't end up working. Sealing it so that the plug was permanently fixed was a disaster and the water pressure was also wrong. This time I don't think I'm going to bother making a hole for the plug and instead will just let it come over the side of the basin.

Wood presents a problem in that I'll have to water seal the entire thing and will probably also have to caulk the whole thing to make it water tight.

Should be interesting, hopefully it won't be a HUGE disaster.
