From the Rector to the University and VCU Health System communities

Dear University and Health System Communities:

It is my pleasure to invite the faculty, staff and students of Virginia Commonwealth University to meet with Dr. Steve Portch, consultant to the Board of Visitors on the presidential search and transition process, in two Open Forum sessions with the university and health system communities. Faculty, staff and students and employees of the VCU Health System are invited to an Open Forum at the Medical Center, on Monday, October 6, 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. in the Kontos Auditorium. Faculty, staff and students are also invited to an Open Forum on Tuesday, October 7, 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., in the Student Commons Theater. With class schedules and other commitments, Dr. Portch encourages people to drop in and out of the sessions as convenient.

The Board of Visitors appreciates the interest of the university and health system communities in the upcoming presidential search and transition process.

The VCU Presidential Search Committee will hold the following October meetings:

• Presidential Search Committee meeting – Oct. 17. from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the University Meeting Center

• Town hall meeting conducted by the Presidential Search Committee – Oct. 17 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the University Student Commons Theater, Monroe Park Campus

• Town hall meeting conducted by the Presidential Search Committee – Oct. 17 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the George Ben Johnston Auditorium, MCV Campus

The Virginia Commonwealth University Board of Visitors selected the higher education search firm of Greenwood/Asher & Associates Inc., of Miramar, Fla., as a consultant to the Presidential Search Committee and the board in recruiting VCU’s next president.

The board considered 12 proposals and the top four firms made presentations to the Board of Visitors. Jan Greenwood, Ph.D., the firm’s president and a former university president and professor, has conducted more than 700 searches in her career and will serve as the lead consultant.

Stephen Portch, Ph.D., also will continue as adviser to the board and search committee and work in partnership with Greenwood.
