Recycling Rates

I have some great news to report, we had another record month for Recycling!!!!

The Recycling Rate for July, 09 including C&D recycling was 61.40%
The Recycling Rate for July, 09 without C&D was 46.29%.
*C&D = Construction and Demolition debris

Our average recycling rate for the year so far is 30.50%.

We have been having a very busy summer with numerous recycling clean-outs and Iron
Mountain document destruction pick-ups related to Department moves and the purging of files.

Our ongoing efforts with the VCU Goes Green of making Students, Staff and Faculty aware of the importance of recycling
and their participation is starting to payoff. We are working closely with University Housing, we recently placed new Recycling Posters in all the Residences Halls, provided reusable bags for students and are promoting recycling and other environmental activities on the Recycling Blog and Facebook site.

Our staff deserve a big thanks for all their hard work to keep the VCU Recycling Program moving in positive direction.

We also continue to work with some other area State Agencies. The Department of Forensics Main office in the Biotech 2 Building has asked VCU-Recycling to start picking up their recycling effective 10/1/09. I will charge them a fee to cover our labor costs. We currently service their satellite offices across the street in Biotech 8.

" The Age of Stupid"

"The Age of Stupid" is a 90-minute climate blockbuster set in the future with Oscar-nominated Pete Postlethwaite starring as a man living alone in the devastated world of 2055, looking back at "archive" footage from 2007 and asking, "Why didn't we stop climate change when we had the chance?"
Trailer: http://www.ageofstupid.net/video/trailer

For the global premiere, scheduled for September 21st, "The Age of Stupid" will help launch the UN's Climate Week < http://www.climateweeknyc.org/events/2009-09-21/age-stupid-global-premiere-live-new-york > and will be an epic live event from a solar-powered cinema in New York City, complete with green carpet and celebs arriving via bike, boat, biodiesel car and more. We will be beaming the movie out through satellite links to over 440 theaters in the US and 700+ cinemas in 55+ countries . As well as performances by Tom Yorke, there will be live climate impact updates from Kofi Annan < http://www.ghf-ge.org/ > , climate scientists from the Arctic, Amazon rainforest, a Himalayan glacier and New Orleans. Afterward, there will be a panel including Kofi Annan, Gillian Anderson < http://www.gilliananderson.ws/ > , Mary Robinson < http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_Robinson > , director Franny Armstrong < http://www.ageofstupid.net/people/franny_armstrong > , and star Pete Postlethwaite < http://www.ageofstupid.net/people/pete_postlethwaite > to discuss the film and the tasks ahead. Copenhagen delegates are all being given complimentary invites. Surely, this is one of the most important and exceptional events in the lead-up to Copenhagen.
