New Ventilation Management Protocols active starting Febrary 14th, 2011!

Beginning February 14, 2011, 5 new Ventilation Protocols will be active in Cerner to make ordering ventilator support easier for our Physicians.  Having these protocols in Cerner will enable RT staff to make ventilator adjustments along with Nursing staff without having to seek separate and specific orders for every minor change.  Also, the reference text in Cerner in addition to the resource binders placed in the RT department and in each ICU will serve as "training guides" for new RT staff and Physician housestaff, as normal changes in personnel occur.  This is a big step, as we now have a "Standard of Care" to which MDs, RNs, and RTs will practice ventilation support.  Your job:  Read, Learn, and Know how to access these protocols, and learn how to guide Physicians to enter these in Cerner so we are "covered" as we practice!

Please check into our intranet section after logging in with your EID and password - if you do not know these, please call the Help Desk at 8-6447.  Select the "Policies" section and find at the bottom of our page the HeliOx (non-ventilated patient) procedure, the HeliOx setup diagram, and the Staff "Call-Back List" - for use during drills and disasters.  More policies will be placed here in the coming weeks and months as we strive to make our manual more available "on-line."
