VCU Facilities Management has scheduled an electrical power outage for Cabell Library on Friday October 30th, starting 7pm. During this time, the UPS and generator will keep the routers in the basement up, however network connectivity within Cabell may go down during this test. However there is a chance that if the generator test fails the following locations could see a disruption in the network:
Cabell Library, Shafer Street Playhouse, Johnsons Hall, Music Center, Ginter House, Performing Arts, Franklin Street Gym, Ritter-Hickok House, Moseley Building, Shafer Court Dining Center, Student Commons, Pollak building, Founders Hall, Hibbs Hall and Raleigh Building.
During this test it is possible that router equipment may shut off due to power disruption, impacting a large segment of the campus. Fortunately, some network electronics may reboot automatically. In the event your computer or phones are not operational within 15 minutes of the end time, please contact the help desk at 828-2227. If your computer comes back up, but your e-phones remains out, the third item on the self help page, below, may apply.

Generally, computers and phones will come back up within a few minutes, once power is stabilized. However, application and servers that requires a log-in may require the user to log in again. Also, your pc may need to be rebooted. A reboot may be needed even if your pc is on a UPS.
