Blackboard 6 upgrade

The Blackboard course management system at VCU has been upgraded to a new version: 6.1. The upgrade provides VCU faculty and students with many new enhancements, including advanced content management features, numerous grade book and assessment enhancements, and a new Collaboration Tool (with Virtual Classroom and Chat capablities).

One of the new features is the Assignment Manager, which allows instructors to create and manage homework assignments for students. Students can use the new Assignment Manager to submit homework, while instructors can provide feedback and comments to students about the assignments.

Another new feature allows instructors to customize the names of the course "buttons." Instructors will now be able to give their course buttons whatever names they choose. Among the grade book enhancements will be the ability to import grades into the Blackboard grade book.

Faculty needing to learn how to use the new features are invited to register for either a Blackboard 5.5 to 6.1 Transistion course or and Blackboard 6.1 Introduction course. Both courses are free and offered on both campuses. For a list of courses, visit the Academic Technology Training Page.
