Technology Services' Help Desk Updates its Phone System to Better Serve You

In order to get you to the technician that can best assist you with your concern, the Technology Services' Help Desk has updated its Phone System to now give you two options as soon as you call in! Upon dialing our help line number, 828-2227, our very brief welcome message will direct you to press 1 for eID or other account related questions; and press 2 for all others. You will be directed to the person that is best equipped to handle your needs!

We want to assure you that although our phone line has gone automated, it has not replaced our personal commitment to you! We made this change so that we could enhance our services to you.

Personal Identity Data Exposure Incident

On August 29, staff from the School of Engineering and the Office of Technology Services discovered that the personal information of 2,100 VCU students could be accessed through the Internet. Personal information including name, social security number, and email address for entering freshmen and graduate students in the School of Engineering from the fall semesters of 1998 through 2005 was affected. VRAM8 Currently Unavailable

Student e-mail server VRAM8 is currently unavailable. Students should connect to VRAMIMAP8C.vcu.edu if connecting via an IMAP mail client such as Outlook or Thunderbird. Those using VCU Mail Anywhere will automatically connect to the alternate server. Please contact Technology Services HelpDesk at 828-2227 for further assistance.

Apple Battery Recall

Apple is recalling certain Mac notebook computer system batteries due to a possible safety risk that may result in overheating. The affected batteries were sold worldwide from October 2003 through August 2006 for use with the following notebook computers: 12-inch iBook G4, 12-inch PowerBook G4 and 15-inch PowerBook G4. Intel-based Macbook and MacBook Pro systems are not affected by this recall. However, 15-inch MacBook Pro systems do have a voluntary battery recall related to another issue. Faculty Staff E-Mail Service Maintenance Saturday, August 26

E-mail Services will be performing software maintenance on the Faculty/Staff Aspen and Oak servers Saturday, August 26, 2006 between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. During the outage, please connect to your alternate server.

Email delivery delayed

We have been experiencing difficulties with mira.vcu.edu, which is
part of the system that delivers mail from outside VCU and to a lesser extent inside VCU. This has caused mail to be delayed for up to a day. We believe we have fixed the problem, but we still have a backlog of email which we believe will be delivered by Thursday morning.

Dell Battery Recall

Dell has identified a potential safety issue with some batteries in Dell notebooks and has issued a voluntary recall. Dell will replace impacted batteries at no charge.
