Internet Connection Disruption Scheduled

There will be loss of Internet connectivity through Network Virginia between 11:45 p.m. and 1 a.m. beginning on Thursday, March 8. Users connected to the internet during this time may lose connectivity to the Internet. If a user does lose their network connection during this event just close the web browser or application and try again in 5 minutes. Connections to web services originating from VCU on our own network will not be affected by this outage but may experience decreased response times during this maintenance event.

Network Virginia is one of two internet backbone service companies that provide internet service to VCU. Internet connectivity through Covanet/MCI, the second VCU internet provider, will be available during this time. Users may experience network slowness inside the VCU network during the maintenance window, but it is not expected. Please contact the Technology Services Help Desk with any questions at help@vcu.edu or 828-2227.

Is Your Phone Number Wrong in the VCU Directory?

With the implementation of the new VCU phone system, some faculty and staff have new phone numbers. If your number is incorrect in the VCU directory on the web, then you can easily change it through Banner Self-Service (the same web site that you check for your pay and leave information). To access Banner Self Service, log into the myVCU portal and click on the "Banner Self Service for Employees" link in the Single Sign-on Links portlet. Once in Banner Self Service, just click on the Personal tab and update your office telephone number. This change will ensure that your correct contact information is displayed in the "People Search" on the VCU homepage as well as other directory databases. Please note that it will take a day or two for all subsidiary databases to be updated once the new information is entered into Banner Self Service. If you have any questions, please contact the Technology Services Help Desk at 828-2227.
