Scheduled Maintenance - E-mail Servers

Scheduled maintenance will be performed on the E-mail system Saturday, February 2, between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. During this maintenance window, access to e-mail may be unavailable on your primary server. Access to your e-mail via your alternate server should be available automatically when accessing through VCU Mail Anywhere, or via your alternate server using an IMAP connection or the Notes client.

New Phishing Scheme from "EDU ACCOUNT TEAM"

VCU email customers may see an email from the "EDU ACCOUNT TEAM" in their email inbox this morning. The Subject line is "VERIFY YOUR EMAIL ACCOUNT NOW". This is a phishing attempt to harvest your email username and password. In many cases this is a person's eID information which can give someone access to various systems in your name with access to your data. DO NOT respond to this email. Please delete it immediately. Technology Services staff is working to resolve this issue on a system level but the easiest way to deal with this email is to just delete it from you inbox. Possible Blackberry Service Interruption - January 26, 2008

Research in Motion (RIM) - the manager of the global Blackberry wireless networks - will be performing disaster recovery testing Saturday, January 26, 2008, between 2 AM and 6 AM. RIM expects Blackberry service will be minimally impacted by this test, but e-mail delivery during this time may be delayed.

Banner Self-Service Users to accept Terms of Usage starting Jan 30

In order to comply with State and University information security policies, all Banner Self-Service users will need to "accept" terms of system use annually. The Terms of Usage page will appear at login starting on January 30th, and users will need to click "Continue" to access Self-Service. The Terms include compliance with policies and standards, consent to monitoring use, and awareness of data privacy and confidentiality. Network Upgrades Sunday & Monday On Monroe Park Campus

Network Services will be performing network upgrades this Sunday & Monday, Jan. 20 & 21, on the Monroe Park campus. This may cause a momentary lost of network connectivity and it is possible that computers will not connect to the network and will need to be rebooted. An extended outage is not expected during these upgrades. This should not affect VoIP phones. Please contact the Technology Services Help Desk at 828-2227 with any questions.

UPDATE2:Theater Row Experiencing Network Connectivity Issues

UPDATE2 (1/18/08-10 a.m.): Network Services stabilized the Theater Row connection about 7 p.m. last night but the connection became unstable again this morning. Staff is continuing to work to resolve the situation. As a result, there will be network disruptions between 12:00 noon and 1:00 p.m. today as work on the laser devices that provide network connectivity for Theater Row are re-aligned again.


UPDATE: There will be network disruptions to Basement and floors 1 through 4 of Theater Row Building while the laser network connections are realigned. It is hoped that this will solve the problem.


The departments located in Theater Row have been experiencing network connectivity issues since earlier this morning. Network Services is aware of the problem and is investigating the problem. This may be a weather related issue but we will not know for sure until it is safe to put staff on the roof of the facility. E-mail Server Oak2 Unavailable

E-mail Services is working to bring Oak2 back on-line. Users may connect to their alternate server, Aspen2, via the Notes client or their IMAP client. For further assistance, please contact the Technology Services Helpdesk at 828-2227.
