Economic times are difficult and students, faculty and parents are wondering what the job market will hold. According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers 2009 and 2010 Study Survey results, the likelihood of a student getting a job offer increased with the frequency of career center use: Students who used the career center four or more times a semester were more likely to have job offers than those who used it once a semester. The University Career Center realizes that we must be pro-active and help YOU get the edge in the job market- students need the Career Center now , more than ever.

Hours:

Teaching Hands Learning Academy is a Supplemental Educational Service provider created by a teacher, to help meet the needs of at-risk students.

Teaching Hands Learning Academy provides free tutoring and supplemental educational services to students in English/Language Arts & Mathematics for grades K-12 and at all skill levels.

We are seeking aspiring teachers to work as Supplemental Educational Services Tutors. We offer good pay, a creative and supportive environment, your supplies and curriculum (using the Coach series among others, geared specifically to the Virginia SOLs) and the framework from which you will make a tremendous difference in the lives of students who may need an extra push.

The program has been approved from VCU's work study department (through financial aid) to be an off-site employer. Job Description - Group Leader for an Afterschool Program run by a local church

Location:  the SPACE (Short Pump Afterschool Child Enrichment) Afterschool Program at Gayton Baptist Church

Responsibilities:
Demonstrate God's love to the children in his/her group.
Facilitate learning experiences.
Supervise the children in his/her group.
Take direction from directors.
Supervise children in activities outside of the classroom, including playground time.
Ride the bus to the schools for pickup and supervise activity on the bus.
Check attendance as children get on and off the bus.
Document behavior problems.
Be approachable to parents, keeping all lines of communication open.
Maintain open communication with director and church leadership.
Help clean up classrooms at the end of each day, as specified in the staff handbook.
Request supplies needed in a timely fashion.
Work with other group leaders and teachers who share classroom space in keeping rooms well-maintained.
Attend workshops, seminars, and staff meetings as specified in contract.
Check ID's if children are being picked-up by someone other than a parent.
Be prompt and courteous.
Follow all policies laid out in staff handbook.

A Group Leader for the SPACE is directly responsible to the Directors.

Salary:   $12/hour starting

Approximate Schedule:  2 to 6 PM Monday through Friday all 5 days or select days
