Fading Light

The sun sets on the rear of the Music Center surrounded by construction fencing. The end draws near for the rear additions to the building, which did serve us well. From its ashes will arise an all new renovated space, ready to serve us well.

Please Fence Me In

Give me land, lots of land. The fencing is in place. And what a glorious sight. Some students reported hearing loud demo sounds from inslde the building.

Still More Signs of Progress

Did you see the baracades and the port-o-pot on site? Now that is what I call progress. Somehow, it did not take my breath away. With all the anticipation, I guess I just put this moment on too tall of a pedastal. Maybe it was the rain and the plastic yellow tape that just made it all seem kind of tawdry. Perhaps that was just a preliminary step before the major blockaide and demolition occur.

Freight Elevator

Bad news folk, the freight elevator sufferd a major blow. There is a problem with the hydrolics, a problem that will take time, lots of money, and create lots of noise while under repair.

Unfortunately, the hydrolics developed a leak. Most likely this developed from the spring under the Northwest corner of the building. Additionally, the hydrolic (I guess you call it ) shaft, goes into the ground about forty feet. Imagine trying to extract that shaft and replace it. Wow, now that is complex.

Take a Peak

As you walk past the Harrison Street doors, take a look down into the basement. All the storage items have been relocated. Another final step before demolition can begin.

Step Aside Please

Keep your eyes open. I just received a message for the waste container located behind the Music Center....

to be removed. This, is a major first step in the start of the actual physical renovation. Equally exciting, the VCU Construction supervisor was copied on the message. The project is out of planning and now into construction. Please, allow me to say this again- Construction.
