Now that you all have put the preview site to the test, it’s time to make Virginia Commonwealth University’s new home page a reality. On Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, when you visit www.vcu.edu, you will see the new home page along with new sites for VCU Maps (www.maps.vcu.edu) and VCU in Pictures (http://pictures.vcu.edu).
Excellent feedback
We’ve received quite a few comments from students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends since the preview site launched in early September. Overall the feedback has been positive, with many of you saying that the site is easier to use and more open, and the new feature area has topped the list of favorites.
What happened to the myVCU login?
Many of you have inquired about the myVCU log in and why it has been removed from the VCU home page. It happened, in large part, because of the university’s new Central Authentication Service, which provides the VCU community the ability to jump from one Web application to the next with only signing in one time (i.e., myVCU to Banner to e-Services). This new service provides a centralized and consistent login interface so users can sign in knowing that their VCU ID and password is encrypted and secure.
Where did the school drop-down list move?
Others of you have commented on the helpfulness of the school drop-down list. You may have noticed in the preview site that it is now grouped with the A to Z index. This new placement allowed more space to use a panel drop-down feature, creating navigation similar to the behavioral pattern established by the topic gateways.
