VCU Student Email in myVCU

A new gadget has been added to the myVCU portal that allows students to see a preview of their unread email messages. The subject and part of the message body is shown, along with links to the VCU Gmail (myVCUmail) website. Only unread messages contained in a user's inbox are shown. All other messages can be accessed on the email website.

Note: This gadget only works with VCU Gmail (mymail.vcu.edu) accounts. Currently, only VCU students have access to these accounts.

VCU iTunes University - now over 600 podcasts

There are now over 600 podcasts available for download on VCU iTunes University. The URL is http://itunes.vcu.edu. There are nearly 100 publicly available podcasts from VCU Athletics, VCU TV/HD, VCU Libraries and many more. There are over 500 podcasts requiring one to log in with their VCU eID from almost every college and school within the University. If you have never listened to a VCU podcast, now is a great time to begin.

New myVCU portal statistics

For the 1 month period from Aug 17th to Sep 16th, there were 1.25 million logins
for the new myVCU portal which represents an average of 40,218 logins per day.

The single highest day of 74,531 occurred on Aug 20th, the first day of class.

CAS provides single sign-on to VCU CollegiateLink

VCU Student Affairs joined the CollegiateLink community to provide an online resource for VCU Student Organizations. Single sign-on login access to VCU CollegiateLink is now available via the VCU Central Authentication System. You can log into VCU CollegiateLink by going to URL: http://vcu.collegiatelink.net/Community?action=getMyHome.

PHPmyFAQ service discontinued

The PHPmyFAQ application has been used for the past few years to support Blackboard and Technology Service (TS) Help Desk Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ). With the design of the new TS web site, these FAQs along with many other sets of FAQs have been integrated into the Knowledge Base section of the new TS web site. Hence, the PHPmyFAQ application has been removed from service.

National Student Clearinghouse Enrollment Verification is working again

The National Student Clearinghouse Enrollment Verification is working again. The issues that prevented the single sign-on process have been resolved. To verify your enrollment, log into the new myVCU portal and click the Enrollment Verification link located in the Resources gadget.

VCU Federal Work Study Jobs application is live

After 10 years, the VCU Federal Work Study Jobs application was completely rewritten and went live on Monday August 10, 2009. The new version allows students to create online portfolio's and to apply for a position with a single click of a button. Employer can manage all of their posted positions including editing and archiving. They receive email notification when someone applies for one of their positions and they can review each applicant's portfolio online. In 2004, we introduced the first myVCU Portal to the University. On August 6, 2009, we updated to a new myVCU Portal. While much is the same, there are some significant differences and enhancements, including:

The myVCU Portal now consists of two portals: Standard and Custom
The tabs are now the same for all members of the VCU community
Many of the Gadgets have been improved
eServices was relocated
Many new features are available for customization
The myVCU Portal utilizes the VCU Central Authentication Systems (CAS) for login

You may now log into the new myVCU Portal.

Project Management Application goes live

Today, the Project Management Information Tracking (PMIT) application went live. Initially, it will be used to track projects within Technology Services. Eventually, it will be available for use by other departments at the University. The URL of the new application is http://go.vcu.edu/pmit.

New Technology Services Web Site

After months of planning and content consolidation, the new Technology Services (TS) web site was unveiled on June 1, 2009. The new TS web site is being managed by VCU Web Content Management System (OpenText). During the summer months the web site will become richer with more content and the old TS web site will be retired on August 1, 2009.

Today, the VCU Central Authentication System (CAS) was placed behind the VCU load balancer in order to provide high availability for authentication into critical VCU applications. To enable CAS authentication for your application, please submit a help desk ticket.

New CAS Login Page

A newly designed Central Authentication System (CAS) login page was put into production today. CAS provides single sign-on for all applications and online services that are CAS-enabled.

Technology Services Planned System Changes

Training site is now back on-line

After being off-line for 20 hours due to non-technical issues, the VCU training site was back online around 2:30pm on Friday. ------------- The VCU Training Site, http://training.vcu.edu is down. I will update this post as soon as we learn the cause and when it is back on line.
